American Troubadours

Spook Handy has been called “a modern day troubadour in the style of Pete Seeger and Phil Ochs.” In fact, Spook’s style of acoustic guitar, harmonica and singing fits right in with the extraordinary troubadours of the past 80 years – Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Peter Paul & Mary, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, John Denver and others – who paved the path for thousands of acoustic songwriters and folk musicians to follow.

Spook had the extraordinary fortune of performing alongside Pete Seeger more than 50 times at concerts and festivals and with Peter Yarrow of Peter Paul and Mary half a dozen times. This has given him first hand opportunities to learn dozens of songs and stories directly from the masters.

This program traces the thread that weaves together the journeys of these groundbreaking troubadours through songs that were often the first of their kind.

An excellent program for Festivals, Libraries, Arts Centers, Churches, Schools and other meeting places. This program incorporates NJ Core Curriculum Standards: 1.5, 3.4, 6.1, 6.2, 6.4 and 6.6. Program Length can vary to meet your needs 45 – 90 minutes.
